The Hydra

A big thanks to everyone that came down to our last Printworks show. With many changes to the production and venue it was great to see those take shape and deliver one of our favourite shows to date.

A review from Resident Advisor is now online here and you'll find the photo album here.

We have intentionally stripped back our activity this summer to focus on our only festival date with Field Day. On Saturday 2nd June we'll take over The Barn to present a line up of artists which we feel perfectly reflects our ethos and interests. As a way of introducing our history and relationship with the artists and Field Day organisers we've put together a shared history to our shared background below.

We're really excited about our debut with Field Day and hope you can join us across the weekend. Full info and tickets via Field Day's website here. Please click here for details of the official Field Day After Party which you'll find at the bottom of this newsletter.

  Set Times:

While it is our debut year at the festival, we have always been kindred spirits, making this partnership so fitting and inevitable As we prepare for next weekend's festival, we're excited to be able to share our stage set times with you:

  Four Tet:

From headlining our first Ninja Tune showcase in 2013, to the eight hour b2b with Daphni at our now infamous New Year's Day 2015 after hours, Four Tet has long been a firm favourite of ours. But that relationship with The Hydra goes back even further. Before Kieran Hebden started selling out venues across the globe, Hydra co-founder Ajay Jayaram gave him his first DJ residency, at legendary London nightclub The End, where he cut his teeth every other month. Four Tet's live show is going to look and sound immense in The Barn at Field Day 2018.

  Nils Frahm:

In 2013 The Hydra produced the first ever Erased Tapes showcase, at Village Underground, headlined by a live a show from the prodigiously talented Nils Frahm (alongside Kiasmos & Rival Consoles). It's hard to imagine that bill in such an intimate venue now however, but it has always been our policy to seek out new talent and hopefully play a small part in their success by providing them with a stage upon which to shine. Nils Frahm is an international star now so we're very much looking forward to working with him again this summer in The Barn at Field Day 2018.

  Floating Points:

Sam Shepherd's number of appearances at The Hydra suitably reflects our love of his complex and unique productions - a true U.K. talent. Outside of The Hydra we have worked with Sam on a number of shows from Lovebox Festival under the electric minds banner, to a roller disco at Hackney Downs Studios as well as spending time on the other side of the fence as paying customers at his Plastic People residency. Floating Points live show is another chapter in an already successful career, so we look forward to welcoming him to The Barn at Field Day 2018.

  Daphni aka Caribou:

We feel very privileged to have worked with Dan Snaith year on year since The Hydra started. It is impossible to choose a preference between his Daphni & Caribou alias, both projects and their respective outputs create new styles and genres and every track whether it's a B side or not is a winner. Behind the music, Daphni is a true professional and while the world has gone smart phone crazy, we love him just that little bit more for sticking with his Nokia 8210 while he tours around the world. Another talent that was with us on the journey, even before we knew what The Hydra was (Border Community @ Corsica way back!). From disco to U.K. garage and everything in between, looking forward to Daphni's DJ Set in The Barn at Field Day 2018.

  Willow:

Having produced a label showcase for Workshop records in 2011 as part of the our other co-founder Dolan Bergin's electric minds night, the label and its artists are always an output we keep track of. When Willow's 2016 record surfaced we didn't initially release it was made by someone from the U.K. After some initial enquiries we made our first booking and in such a short space of time many more dates have taken place, from clubs to festivals and a memorable closing party at India's Magnetic Fields. A raw and rising talent, we're pleased to be working with Sophie again in The Barn at Field Day 2018

  The Hydra - June 2017

  Panda Bear:

Aside from our extended Hydra family, and an ongoing desire to support new talent, we also like to invite like-minded souls to debut for us whenever possible. With Animal Collective, Noah Lennox has been responsible for some of the last decade's most enduring music, but as Panda Bear his sense of adventure takes things a step further, something that appeals to us at The Hydra. We're very excited to have this singular artist join us at The Barn at Field Day 2018.
